Leeds Training Camp
In October 2004 Phoenix gymnasts Wayne Healy and Hugo Kieran travelled to The Leeds Centre of Excellence
for five days training.
Over the years members of Phoenix Gymnastics Club have developed a close bond
with the club in Leeds.
Phoenix Holds Its First Training Session
After several weeks of planning Ireland's first all boys gymnastics club was
launched. On September 6th 2004 Phoenix GC commenced
enrolment for its first season and held its first training session in De la
Salle, Churchtown. The class was well attended with many of our new members
doing gymnastics for the first time.
UEG Training Camp
(Tirrenia 2004)
Wayne Healy from Phoenix and Luke Carson from Salto travelled to Tirrenia in
Italy in July 2004 for a two week training camp. The camp run by UEG is regarded
as one of the top junior training camp in the world. Each country gets to send a
maximum of two gymnasts to the camp. Gymnasts and coaches from over
18 different countries in Europe attended.
2004 NDP Championships
Members of the Irish National Squad including members of Phoenix Gymnastics
Club travelled to Cardiff, Wales, to compete in the National Development Program
in July 2004. Even though Phoenix GC was yet to have its first training
session it was the first time Phoenix GC had gymnasts on an Irish team. For the
record Wayne Healy was our first ever gymnast to represent Ireland!
